The Church of Peace stands in the Marly Gardens within the grounds of Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, a Protestant sanctuary shaped by the artistic vision of King Frederick William IV. Designed by court architect Ludwig Persius and completed after his 1845 death by Friedrich August Stüler, with contributions from Ferdinand von Arnim and Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse, the church exemplifies Byzantine Revival architecture. Its cornerstone was laid in April 1845, and though dedicated in September 1848, construction extended until 1854. The structure evokes a High Medieval Italian monastery and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing the Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin.
