Designed by the local architectural firm Johnson, Miller & Miller in 1920 and completed in 1921–1922, the building was erected as the headquarters of the Citizens' Trust Company. It incorporates Art Deco design elements alongside its classical Chicago School vocabulary, creating a distinctive presence in the city's downtown.
