Designed by Albuquerque-based architect Antoine Predock and completed in 1993, the CLA Building was an administrative structure on the campus of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, rendered in the Futurist style. Its pointed, triangular form with an open top made it the university's most visually distinctive landmark and came to define the institution's image. The building gained wider cultural visibility through appearances in films including *Gattaca* and *Impostor*, as well as numerous television commercials. However, it sat directly above the San Jose Hills fault line and suffered persistent water leaks and structural deficiencies that did not meet California earthquake safety standards. Following a lawsuit against its contractor, the university received a $13.3 million settlement. The Administration portion of the building was demolished in August 2022 after the discovery of the underlying fault line, with administrative functions relocated to a newer campus facility.
