The Teatro Colón is a historic opera house in Buenos Aires, Argentina, designed by architects Luca Pierotti, Vittorio Meano, and Francesco Tamburini and completed in 1908 after a twenty-year construction process. Built in an eclectic architectural style, it replaced an earlier theatre that had opened in 1857 and became recognized as one of the world's finest opera venues. The theatre opened on 25 May 1908 with a performance of Verdi's *Aïda* and subsequently attracted the era's leading international singers and opera companies. Renowned for its exceptional acoustics—rated by acoustics expert Leo Beranek as the best for opera and second-best for concerts globally—the Teatro Colón has served as home to its resident orchestra, choir, and ballet company, as well as the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra. After undergoing major renovations between 2006 and 2010, it was declared a National Historical Monument of Argentina in 1991 and continues to host performances, experimental works, and educational programs.
