The Communal House of the Textile Institute, designed by Ivan Nikolaev and built between 1929 and 1931 in Moscow's Donskoy District, exemplifies Soviet constructivist architecture. Originally conceived as a dormitory for 2,000 textile students, the building served that purpose until 1996. After World War II, it transitioned to housing students of the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. Between 2013 and 2017, the institute undertook a federally funded restoration that returned the building to its original appearance while modernizing its facilities. Today recognized as a regional cultural heritage site, the landmark remains a notable example of early Soviet dormitory design and constructivist principles.
