Cristo Rey Church stands on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico, as one of the most significant works by architect John Gaw Meem, completed and dedicated in 1940. Built in the Pueblo Revival style, it is claimed by some sources to be the largest adobe building in the United States. The church's most celebrated feature is the Reredos of Our Lady of Light, an altar screen carved in 1761 that originally hung in La Castrense, a military chapel on the Santa Fe Plaza. This historic reredos, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been described as "one of the most extraordinary pieces of ecclesiastical art in the country."
