The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, a neoclassical opera and ballet house designed by the architectural firm Fellner & Helmer, stands prominently on Republic of Croatia Square in the heart of the city. Though construction was completed in 1895, the institution itself officially opened in 1860, making it the oldest Croatian theatre institution. Its distinctive bright yellow facade has become one of Zagreb's most recognizable landmarks. As the central national theatre, it presents a diverse programme encompassing domestic and international works from classical, modern, and contemporary repertoires, with over two hundred stage performances during each season. The theatre is a member of Opera Europa and the European Theatre Convention, serving as one of seven national theatres in Croatia.
