Located one kilometre south of Zagreb's main square, the Zagreb Main Station is Croatia's largest railway station and principal hub for the Croatian Railways network. Designed by Hungarian architect Ferenc Pfaff in the Neoclassical style, it opened officially on 18 August 1892 and has served as the city's primary passenger railway station ever since. The building is registered among Croatia's cultural goods. In the early 2010s, the station processed approximately 2.6 million passengers annually while undergoing modernization of its signalling and safety systems, partly financed by the European Union.
