Crossroads of the World is an open-air shopping center on Sunset Boulevard and Las Palmas in Los Angeles, designed by Robert V. Derrah and completed in 1936. The Moderne-style complex features a central building shaped like an ocean liner, surrounded by cottage-style bungalows arranged as a small village—a design that has earned it recognition as America's first outdoor shopping mall. Once a thriving retail destination, the site later transformed into office space for the entertainment industry, housing music publishers, film and television writers, recording companies, costume designers, and casting agencies. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the complex represents a distinctive chapter in twentieth-century commercial architecture and Los Angeles's urban development.
