Dealey Plaza, a city park in the West End Historic District of downtown Dallas, Texas, was completed in 1940 and is sometimes called the "birthplace of Dallas." Named after George Dealey, the plaza is constructed in the Chicago School architectural style. It gained international historical significance as the location of President John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963. The Dealey Plaza Historic District was designated a National Historic Landmark on the thirtieth anniversary of the assassination to preserve the plaza, surrounding street rights-of-way, and adjacent buildings and structures identified as witness locations or possible vantage points related to the assassination.
