The Dolmabahçe Clock Tower stands before the Treasury Gate of Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, a four-story Ottoman neo-baroque structure designed by court architect Sarkis Balyan and constructed between 1890 and 1895 at the order of Sultan Abdülhamid II. Rising 27 meters on a square footprint of 8.5 by 8.5 meters along the Bosphorus waterfront, the tower displays the hybrid aesthetic of Ottoman revival architecture blended with Empire style, its four sides each bearing clock faces with stylized Eastern Arabic numerals. The timepiece itself was manufactured by the prestigious French clockmaker Jean-Paul Garnier and installed by the imperial court clock master Johann Mayer. Two opposing facades carry the tughra (imperial monogram) of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, reinforcing the tower's status as a royal commission. Though its original mechanical movement was partially converted to electrical operation in 1979, the tower remains a distinctive landmark anchoring the palace's waterfront approach.
