The East Ekbatan Complex, completed in 1974 in Tehran's District 5, is a monumental residential ensemble designed by the American firm Gruzen and Partners under architect Jordan Gruzen. Built during the Pahlavi era, the complex exemplifies the period's modernist ambitions, combining brutalist and modernist principles through bold concrete forms and geometric massing. As an apartment complex, it represents a significant example of large-scale residential architecture in Iran from the 1970s, when such ambitious architectural ensembles reflected contemporary international design trends adapted to the Iranian context.
