The Eastern Gate (Oostpoort) in Delft is a Brick Gothic structure built around 1400, representing the northern European architectural tradition in its use of brick as the primary material. Around 1510, the gate received significant enhancement when octagonal floors and high spires were added to its towers, creating a more elaborate silhouette. Originally one of several fortified passages through the city's walls, it is now the sole surviving city gate in Delft—its companions were demolished during the 1840s, a fate the Eastern Gate escaped due to its comparatively light traffic. Following restoration in 1964, the building has been repurposed as an art gallery and private residence, securing its preservation as a Rijksmonument.
