Located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, the Church of the Val-de-Grâce is a baroque Roman Catholic church built as part of a royal abbey commissioned by Anne of Austria to commemorate the birth of Louis XIV in 1638. Construction began in 1645 under François Mansart's direction and was completed in 1665 by Gabriel Le Duc, with involvement from architects Pierre Le Muet and Jacques Lemercier in its design. During the French Revolution, the abbey and church were converted into a hospital, eventually becoming part of the Val-de-Grâce Hospital until its closure in 1979. Today, the church remains attached to the diocese of the French military and is open to visitors during specified hours, its distinctive dome serving as a recognizable landmark on the Parisian skyline. The building is classified as a historical monument.
