The Empress Hotel was a three-storey red-brick building that stood at the corner of Yonge and Gould streets in downtown Toronto, embodying the Romanesque Revival and Second Empire styles characteristic of late 19th-century Canadian architecture. Opened in 1888, the hotel changed ownership multiple times throughout its history and ceased operating as a hotel in the mid-1970s. Designated a heritage property under Part IV protection, the building was ultimately destroyed by fire on January 3, 2011.
