The Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč, Croatia, is a Roman Catholic cathedral and minor basilica built in 553, representing one of the finest examples of early Byzantine architecture in the Mediterranean. The episcopal complex comprises the basilica itself, a sacristy, baptistery, and the bell tower of the nearby archbishop's palace. Though it has sustained damage from accidents, fires, and earthquakes over the centuries, the structure has largely preserved its original form. As the third church constructed on the site, it incorporates elements of earlier buildings, including a fifth-century floor mosaic from its predecessor. Widely regarded as the best-preserved early Christian church in the world, the basilica has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 and serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Poreč-Pula.
