The Fatima Masumeh Shrine in Qom, Iran, is the mausoleum of Fatima bint Musa, sister of the eighth Imam Ali al-Rida and daughter of the seventh Imam Musa al-Kazim, built in the Safavid architectural style. As one of the most significant shrines in Shia Islam, it draws millions of pilgrims annually to this world center of Shia Islamic scholarship. Beyond Fatima Masumeh herself, the shrine houses the graves of three daughters of the ninth Imam Muhammad al-Taqi, the celebrated Persian poet Parvin Etesami, six members of the Safavid dynasty, eleven members of the Qajar dynasty, and numerous scholars, clerics, and political figures. The complex has catalyzed the growth of dozens of seminaries and religious schools, establishing Qom alongside Najaf, Karbala, Mashhad, Kadhimiya, Samarra, and Kufa as a paramount pilgrimage and learning center in Shia Islam.
