Completed in 1971, Finlandia Hall is a congress and event venue designed by Alvar Aalto on the Töölönlahti Bay in central Helsinki. Every detail of the modernist building was conceived by Aalto, whose designs were finalized in 1962 before construction began in 1967. The structure is clad in distinctive Lasa and Carrara marble, establishing its iconic presence in the city. A Congress Wing was added in 1973–1975, followed by further exhibition and meeting facilities in 2011. The hall gained international prominence in 1975 when it hosted the OSCE Summit attended by 35 world leaders. In Finland, the building is protected by city plan and national architectural heritage law; in 2026, Finlandia Hall was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the broader recognition of Aalto Works.
