The First Methodist Church in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, a brick structure at 502 N. Main Street, began life as the Wagner Opera House in 1874–75, when it was constructed in Italianate style. Following fire damage that year, the Methodist congregation acquired and completed the building as a church, extensively renovating it to its current Neoclassical appearance in 1924–25. Unusual among Wisconsin's urban church buildings, it retains storefronts at street level. The congregation vacated the structure in 1970, after which it served as a Boys' Club and homeless shelter. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 and is listed in the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places.
