The Fondaco dei Turchi is a palazzo on Venice's Grand Canal that exemplifies Venetian Gothic architecture with influences from Islamic, Renaissance, and Byzantine design. Commissioned by Giacomo Palmier, the structure functioned as a fondaco—a combined residence, warehouse, and trading center—and from the early 17th century through the 19th century housed Venice's Ottoman Turkish merchant community, a role reflected in its enduring name. The building was rebuilt by the Venetian government in 1869 and now serves as a museum.
