Palazzo Foscari, a Gothic palace built in the 14th century on the Venetian island of Giudecca, originated as a residence for Francesco Foscari, the 65th doge of Venice, and his family. In the late 19th century, the palazzo was inhabited and substantially renovated by Giovanni Stucky, a Swiss engineer who modernized Venice's flour mills with contemporary manufacturing techniques—a renovation documented in a mosaic dated 1898. The building subsequently served as home to the Archivio musicale Luigi Nono from 1992 to 2006, preserving the musical legacy of the Venetian composer. Since 2006, the palazzo has functioned as a contemporary art gallery, taking its name from the civic address Giudecca 795.
