Fort de Bertheaume is a fortress located on a tidal island off Plougonvelin in Brittany's Finistère Department, France. Perched on steep cliffs that provide natural defensive advantages, the fort has guarded the Goulet de Brest—the straits providing access to Brest harbor—since the 17th century. The island, now connected to the mainland by a footbridge, sits well above sea level, making the fort's position both imposing and strategically commanding over the strategic waterway it has long surveilled.
