Gaeta Cathedral, dedicated to Saints Erasmus and Marcian and Saint Mary of the Assumption, stands as the mother church of the archdiocese in Gaeta, Italy. Built on the site of the earlier church of Santa Maria del Parco beginning in the 9th century, the cathedral was enlarged repeatedly over centuries. By the 13th century it had acquired a seven-aisle structure that persisted through subsequent modifications. Major 17th-century interventions by the Lazzari family rebuilt the apse and crypt, while late 18th-century work by Pietro Paolo Ferrara reshaped the interior. The neo-Gothic façade was constructed between 1903 and 1904 and finally completed in 1950. Elevated to minor basilica status by Pope Pius IX in 1848, the cathedral has been recognized as an Italian national monument since 1941.
