The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is Italy's oldest active shopping arcade and a defining landmark of central Milan. Designed in 1861 and constructed by architect Giuseppe Mengoni between 1865 and 1877, this Renaissance Revival commercial gallery rises 29.2 meters within a monumental four-story double arcade. Named after Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of unified Italy, the structure stands as a major architectural ensemble and exemplar of nineteenth-century urban commercial design. Today it remains an Italian national heritage site and a vital commercial and cultural center of the city.
