Designed by Ernest Coxhead and completed in 1915, Garfield Intermediate School in Berkeley exemplifies Mission Revival architecture and was one of five schools the city constructed that year. The single-story building features enclosed classroom courtyards and a 400-seat auditorium with French windows, design elements that earned it recognition as a "California outdoor school." Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, the school building now serves as the Berkeley Jewish Community Center, East Bay.
