Government House in Fredericton, New Brunswick, is the official residence of the province's Lieutenant Governor. Built in 1828 from sandstone, the structure exemplifies Georgian architecture and sits on a 4.5-hectare estate along the Saint John River. Unlike the prominent civic centerpieces found in many capitals, Government House occupies a relatively secluded location at 51 Woodstock Road, lending it the character of a private residence rather than an imposing governmental seat. Designated both a provincial heritage place and a national historic site of Canada, it reflects the understated architectural traditions of early Canadian official architecture.
