The New Brunswick Legislative Building in Fredericton, opened in 1882, serves as the seat of the province's Legislative Assembly. Designed by Saint John architect J.C. Dumaresq, the structure exemplifies Second Empire style and was built to replace the previous legislature, which had been destroyed by fire in 1877. The building's most distinctive feature is its central rotunda, which rises to approximately 41 metres (135 feet). Now designated a provincial heritage place, it remains an important institutional landmark.
