Province House in Halifax is Canada's oldest house of government and the longest-serving legislative building in the country, home to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly since 1819. Designed by architect John Merrick in the Palladian and Neoclassical styles, the three-storey structure of brick and sandstone is regarded as one of North America's finest examples of Palladian architecture. Designated both a provincially registered property and a national historic site of Canada, it remains the seat of provincial legislature to the present day.
