Government House in Halifax is the official residence of Nova Scotia's lieutenant governor, distinguished by its prominent urban location on Barrington Street—unusual among Canadian provincial vice-regal residences. Designed by Isaac Hildreth in the Palladian style and constructed of stone, the building exemplifies neoclassical architectural principles while maintaining surrounding gardens despite its downtown setting. Now designated both a provincially registered property and a national historic site of Canada, it represents an important symbol of provincial governance.
