The Hamilton County Courthouse in Hamilton, Texas, erected in 1887, exemplifies the Second Empire style popular in late-nineteenth-century public architecture. The original structure was substantially enlarged during 1931–1932 under architect E. M. Miles, who added north and south wings and introduced pedimented porticos on the east and west facades. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the building also holds designations as a State Antiquities Landmark and a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
