The Heygate Estate was a large brutalist housing complex in Walworth, Southwark, South London, comprising 1,214 homes designed by architects Tim Tinker and Roger Westman. Situated adjacent to Walworth Road and New Kent Road immediately east of Elephant & Castle, the estate housed more than 3,000 residents and became a notable filming location owing to its distinctive brutalist architecture. Demolished between 2011 and 2014 as part of urban regeneration efforts in the Elephant & Castle area, its clearance and subsequent sale to Lendlease for redevelopment generated significant controversy.
