Built in 1934 by Civilian Conservation Corps workers in Lassen Volcanic National Park, the Horseshoe Lake Ranger Station exemplifies the National Park Service Rustic style that defined backcountry structures of its era. This rectangular log cabin, measuring approximately 33 by 23 feet and extended by gabled front and back porches, is the only surviving standard-plan ranger station of its type within the park. Constructed to Park Service plan #3032 and completed in October 1934, it features split-pole chinking throughout, with interior spaces including a large living room, kitchen, bedroom, and storage areas, all serviced by stone fireplaces in the main rooms and oiled wood flooring. Originally accompanied by a utilitarian barn (now vanished), the ranger station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
