Overlooking the Place Vendôme in Paris's 1st arrondissement, the Hôtel Ritz Paris is a luxury palace hotel built in 1898 behind the façade of an eighteenth-century townhouse. Founded by Swiss hotelier César Ritz in collaboration with French chef Auguste Escoffier, it was among Europe's first hotels to offer en suite bathrooms, electricity, and telephones in every room—innovations that secured its reputation for luxury and attracted royalty, politicians, writers, and film stars. Designed by architect Charles Mewès with baroque-style elements, the hotel features suites named after celebrated guests including Coco Chanel and the Bar Hemingway. Its Suite Impériale has been designated a national monument by the French government. The hotel underwent major renovations from 1980 to 1987 and again from 2012 to 2016, and remains ranked among the world's most luxurious hotels.
