The Hôtel du Palais Biarritz is a historic luxury hotel overlooking the Atlantic beach in the resort town of Biarritz on France's Côte Basque. Originally commissioned around 1855 as a summer villa for Empress Eugénie, the building's imperial patronage was instrumental in transforming the village into a fashionable resort destination. Designed by architects Auguste Lafollye, Louis-Auguste Couvrechef, Hippolyte Durand, Gabriel-Auguste Ancelet, and Édouard Niermans, the structure exemplifies eclectic architecture and Second Empire style. Converted into a hotel casino in 1880, it subsequently hosted European royalty, notably King Edward VII on multiple extended visits. Devastated by fire in 1903, the villa was lavishly rebuilt and enlarged within its original walls. Though it declined and closed temporarily in the 1950s, the hotel has since been refurbished and restored to luxury status under Hyatt management. It is inscribed as a monument historique.
