Howth Castle, located by the village of Howth in County Dublin, Ireland, is a historic dwelling built in 1235 and substantially reconstructed during the 14th and 15th centuries in Anglo-Norman style. It served as the ancestral seat of the St Lawrence family, who had controlled the area since the Norman invasion of the 12th century and held the titles of Lord Howth, Baron Howth, and later Earl of Howth until 1909. The castle sits within a substantial estate encompassing much of Howth Head peninsula, including heathland, cliff walks overlooking Dublin Bay, woodland, and the nearby island of Ireland's Eye. The grounds feature golf courses, a hotel, and gardens, along with a collapsed portal tomb and several streams. The castle and estate were held by the Gaisford-St Lawrence family until 2019, when they were sold to the Tetrarch investment group; the castle's contents were subsequently auctioned in 2021.
