Swords Castle, in County Dublin, is an early medieval stronghold erected in the early 13th century for the Archbishops of Dublin near the Ward River. Built around 1200, portions of the estate deteriorated by the 14th and 15th centuries, though the castle remained at least partially occupied into the 16th and 17th centuries. During the 1641 Rebellion, Anglo-Irish Catholic families used it as a gathering place. The site gained protection as a national monument under the Office of Public Works in the early 20th century and underwent long-term phased restoration from the late 20th century onward. Today it is partially open for tours and is recorded on Fingal County Council's list of protected structures.
