Completed in 2005, 71 South Wacker (formerly known as the Hyatt Center) is a 48-story office tower in Chicago designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. Standing 207 meters tall on South Wacker Drive, the building is distinguished by its lozenge-shaped floor plan, which creates distinctive convex curves across its steel and glass north and south facades. The 1.76-million-square-foot structure required 65,000 cubic yards of concrete and 12,000 tons of structural steel, with construction taking nearly two years and approximately 1.3 million man-hours. The building incorporates substantial landscape design by Chicago's Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects, featuring bamboo groves and fountains in the lobby alongside curved stone planters on its south side, complemented by art installations including Keith Tyson panels and a trompe-l'œil mural by Ricci Albenda. Twenty-eight high-speed elevators serve the tower. Originally headquarters to the Hyatt Corporation before their 2017 relocation, the building is now owned by the Irvine Company and houses major tenants including Colliers International, Mayer Brown LLP, and Columbia Threadneedle Investments.
