Located in Dubuque, Iowa, the Interstate Power Company Building is a hybrid historic structure comprising two distinct components: an 1894 Queen Anne-style edifice and a 1956 Modern Movement addition that was later expanded to four stories. Originally housing the Dubuque Electric Company beginning in 1924, the building became the regional headquarters of Interstate Power Company after the utility's 1925 reorganization, eventually serving parts of eight states and a Canadian province. The 1956 addition was purpose-built as a climate-controlled facility for the company's large computer installations alongside office space; further additions followed in 1962, 1981, and 1989. Interstate Power maintained its corporate operations from the building until its acquisition by Alliant Energy in 1996. The structure was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008 and recognized as a contributing property to the Upper Main Street Historic District in 2005.
