Completed in 1888 in downtown Dubuque, Iowa, the Ziepprecht Block is a three-story brick commercial building that exemplifies transitional late-nineteenth-century architectural style. Its design synthesizes elements from three movements: Italianate features including a heavy projecting cornice and rounded pediment; larger paired windows characteristic of Second Empire; and three-sided bay windows drawn from Queen Anne vocabulary. One of a diminishing number of double storefront blocks remaining in the area, it originally housed a drug store and confectionery on its ground floors, with apartments above. The building was commissioned by the estate of Henry Ziepprecht, a German-born druggist who had settled in Dubuque in 1856, replacing an earlier structure that had contained his pharmacy. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
