Located in Mauston, Wisconsin, the Juneau County Courthouse exemplifies Streamline Moderne design, a style that reached prominence during the Depression era. Designed by architects Hougen & Henderson and constructed with Works Project Administration assistance, the building was erected in two stages beginning in 1938, with completion in 1941. The three-story structure, built on a raised basement with characteristic Art Deco setbacks that create a stepped profile as it rises, measures 164 by 70 feet at its base and is constructed of stone. The building incorporated both an initial addition to the pre-existing courthouse and a second unit built atop the razed original structure, making it a palimpsest of the courthouse's development. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and is also registered in the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places.
