Kachanivka Palace stands on the bank of the Smosh River near Petrushivka in Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine, as one of several country estates commissioned by Pyotr Rumyantsev, Catherine II's viceroy of Little Russia. Designed by Karl Blank in the Neoclassical style and erected in the 1770s, the residence was later augmented with a church, orangery, aviary, water tower, and other buildings during the 19th century. After passing to the Tarnovsky family, the estate attracted notable cultural figures including Nikolai Gogol, Taras Shevchenko, Ilya Repin, Mikhail Vrubel, and Mikhail Glinka, who composed portions of his opera *A Life for the Tsar* there. Though converted to a penal colony and tuberculosis hospital during the Soviet period, the palace and its extensive English park remain exceptionally well preserved. Designated a national cultural preserve in 1982 and selected as one of the Seven Wondrous Castles and Palaces of Ukraine, it is now registered in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine.
