The Massandra Palace is a châteauesque villa built in 1801 in Massandra, near Yalta on Crimea's south coast, designed by architect Maximilian Messmacher. Rendered in the ornate Louis XIII style characteristic of grand European estates, the palace was commissioned for Emperor Alexander III of Russia. Now designated a cultural heritage site in Ukraine, it exemplifies the imperial architectural ambitions of nineteenth-century Russia on the Black Sea.
