Kassiopi Castle stands on the northeastern coast of Corfu, commanding views over the fishing village of Kassiopi and the strategic Corfu Channel separating the island from the mainland. Built during the Byzantine period, it was one of three fortifications that formed a defensive triangle across the island—alongside Gardiki to the south and Angelokastro to the northwest—before Venice's dominion over Corfu began in 1386. Today a protected archaeological site, the castle ranks among the most imposing architectural remains in the Ionian Islands, its Byzantine foundations still testament to its once-critical role in island defence.
