Located in Waikapu, Maui, at 750 feet elevation in the West Maui foothills, the King Kamehameha Golf Course Clubhouse is based on Frank Lloyd Wright's unbuilt 1957 design for Arthur Miller's residence, originally conceived for Marilyn Monroe before their divorce halted the project. Wright's design itself drew from two earlier unrealized schemes—the 1952 Raúl Baillères house and the 1949 Robert F. Windfohr house. After Wright's archives were consulted in 1988 by golf course developers Pundy Yokouchi and Howard Hamamoto, architect John Rattenbury synthesized all three Wright designs, enlarging them to suit a commercial clubhouse while adapting the structure to Waikapu's hilly terrain. Completed in 1993, the clubhouse commands panoramic views across the sugarcane valley toward Haleakalā volcano and the bays of central Maui.
