Opened in 1982 in Izumi, Osaka Prefecture, the Kubosō Memorial Museum of Arts was designed by the Takenaka Corporation to house an outstanding collection donated by the local Kubo family, founders of a cotton textile business. The museum's approximately eleven thousand works include two National Treasures—the Kasen Uta-awase scroll and a Southern Song celadon vase with phoenix ears called Bansei—along with twenty-nine Important Cultural Properties. A new wing was added in 1997, and the building itself is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
