Latchmere House stands southeast of Ham Common in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, south west London, straddling the boundary with the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Originally constructed during the Victorian era as a private residence, the large house was commandeered by the War Office and underwent various institutional uses before being transferred to Her Majesty's Prison Service following World War II. For decades it functioned as a detention centre and prison until its closure in September 2011. In 2013, Berkeley Homes purchased the site and undertook a substantial conversion, dividing the Victorian structure into seven apartments while developing additional residential properties across the grounds.
