Lenin's Mausoleum stands in Red Square, Moscow, a stark modernist structure designed by Alexey Shchusev and completed in 1930 to house the preserved body of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin. Clad in labradorite, porphyry, and granite, the 12-meter-high edifice draws on Egyptian Revival principles and incorporates architectural elements inspired by ancient mausoleums, including the Step Pyramid and the Tomb of Cyrus the Great. An outdoor tribune crowning the entrance served as a vantage point for Soviet leaders observing military parades. Since Lenin's death in 1924, his embalmed body has remained on public display within, with brief exceptions during wartime. The structure was renamed Lenin's and Stalin's Mausoleum from 1953 to 1961 to honor both leaders. Today, it stands as a federal cultural heritage site in Russia.
