Erected in 1926 at Finland Station in Saint Petersburg, this monumental statue depicts Lenin delivering a speech from an armoured car, commemorating his legendary arrival at the station in 1917 after returning from exile. Designed by sculptor Sergei A. Evseev and architects Vladimir Shchuko and Vladimir Gelfreich in early constructivist style, the work stands 11 metres tall in bronze and granite. One of the first large-scale Lenin statues, completed within three years of his death, it became influential enough that its pose was imitated by subsequent monuments. Among the relatively few Lenin statues to survive the Soviet Union's collapse, it was damaged in a 2009 bomb attack but subsequently restored. The work holds federal cultural heritage status in Russia.
