Lewes Castle is a medieval fortress in East Sussex, England, originally known as Bray Castle. Built from local limestone and flint, it occupies a strategically commanding position overlooking the gap in the South Downs carved by the River Ouse, controlling access to the towns of Lewes and Cliffe. The castle stands on a man-made mound just north of Lewes's high street. Today it is designated a Grade I listed building and scheduled monument.
