Located at 34–41 137th Street in Flushing, Queens, the Lewis H. Latimer House is a Queen Anne–style residence constructed between 1887 and 1889 by the Sexton family. The house gained historical significance as the home of African-American inventor Lewis Howard Latimer from 1903 to 1928. Now operated as a museum by the Lewis H. Latimer Fund, Inc., under the Department of Parks and Recreation, it commemorates not only Latimer's pioneering work but also celebrates the achievements of other Black scientists. A designated New York City Landmark, the house remained in the Latimer family's possession until 1963 and is currently part of the Historic House Trust.
